At the meeting of the Marshall School Board on Tuesday, May 25, Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher explained this year’s senior class wound up six hours short of what is necessary to finish the year by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (DESE) mandated 1,044 hours.

Dr. Maher says the seniors this year will not be required to make up the hours, but the district will need to make sure this doesn’t happen again next year.

Dr. Maher says DESE also requires districts to put 36 hours on top of the 1,044 for weather-related closures.

Dr. Maher said several ideas will be submitted to the CTA for it to discuss and formulate a remedy.

Dr. Maher said the first day of school could be moved up to August 23 instead of the current August 25.

Dr. Maher said herself and the CTA will make a decision and have it ready for the board to discuss during its next meeting on Thursday, June 24.
