guilty-plea

A 50-year-old Holden has been sentenced to a decade in jail after he changed his plea in Carroll County Court.

Danny Joe Darnell was arrested following a call to the Carroll County Police Department, on August 31, which stated a truck had struck a fence and left the scene of the crash. A short time later, it was reported that the same truck had struck a Carrollton Fire Department vehicle that was parked on the sidewalk. The driver then struck a fire hyrdrant and nearly hit a patrol vehicle before leading law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit. Darnell was arrested after he pulled into a parking lot before an officer trapped his truck against a wall.

As part of a plea deal, Darnell pleaded guilty to felony charges of Habitual DWI and Resisting Arrest by Fleeing.

The Court sentenced the Darnell to ten years in the Department of Corrections on the DWI felony and and 4 years on the resisting arrest charge. These sentences are to run concurrently. The court also requested that Darnell be placed in a long term substance abuse program.
