U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver II (D-MO) is highlighting that advance monthly payments of the Child Tax Credit of up to $300 per month per child will begin hitting the bank accounts of Missouri families on July 15 and continue through December of this year. The expanded Child Tax Credit with advance monthly payments was passed through the American Rescue Plan.

According to data from the House Appropriations Committee, 48,900 households, covering 91 percent of all children in Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District, could get the credit. The expanded and improved Child Tax Credit will lift 11,000 children in Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District out of poverty. Nearly all families will receive their monthly payments automatically with no further action required.

Families who did not file a tax return for 2019 or 2020, and who did not use the IRS Non-filers tool last year to sign up for the Economic Impact Payments, should go online and use the IRS Child Tax Credit Non-filer Sign-up Tool at https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/child-tax-credit-non-filer-sign-up-tool> to ensure they receive their payments.

The American Rescue Plan expanded the Child Tax Credit to up to $3,600 per child for children ages 0 to 5 and $3,000 per child for children ages 6 to 17.
