Two administrative bills were approved by the Higginsville Board of Aldermen during its meeting on Monday, June 21.

The board approved a bill to authorize the city attorney to engage in the services of Jeffrey M. Place, Attorney At Law, as special counsel for employment matters. According to a release from city administrator Jeanette Dobson, there are times that additional counsel is needed for employment matters.

Aldermen also gave their approval to a bill adding Chapter 635 to the Higginsville Code- mobile food vendors. Dobson says there seems to be a trend toward mobile food vendors since COVID hit, and this ordinance will address the increased demand for this type of merchant, with a change in the number of times they can operate in the city; and also changes in the requirements the vendors must be to be in compliance. The city collector and building official will monitor the vendors.

In other business, the board approved the annual renewal of liquor and amusement licenses and a fireworks sales permit for the Higginsville Lions Club at the Ag Power location.

Also, Sheri Tieman was recognized for 20 years of service as a city employee. Tieman started as an accounts payable clerk in 2001. She was promoted to utility billing clerk/deputy clerk in November 2010. After six years in this position, Tieman was promoted to administrative assistant, and in January 2019 city clerk duties were added to her position of administrative assistant.
