Betty C. Williams, 86, of Slater, died Wednesday, July 28, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be  held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 2 at Peace Lutheran Church in Slater, with Pastor Walt Snyder officiating.  Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the church.  Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born February 18, 1935 in Forest Green, she was the daughter of the late Gus and Dorothy Gebhardt Sanders.  She was married to Gordon Williams, who preceded her in death on March 13, 2009.

She is survived by a sister, Janet Sanders of Slater; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Sanders and William Sanders.

Mrs. Williams was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church, where she served as Treasurer for a number of years.  She was a 1953 graduate of Slater High School.  She was Chief Operator, later Manager of Operator Services for Southwestern Bell Telephone, which subsequently became AT&T, retiring in 1990 after thirty-seven and a half years of service. She was a member of the Business & Professional Women’s group in Sedalia, where she was named “Woman of the Year” in 1972 for saving a woman who was choking while traveling overseas.  She was awarded the Theodore Vail Medal Award for her heroic actions.  She worked in Slater, Marshall, Sedalia, and Wichita, Kansas until her retirement.
