During its meeting on Friday, September 17, the Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Work approved a required Wastewater usage rate increase for its customers.

The board approved a motion to increase the Wastewater usage rate by 15 cents, from $0.235 per 100 gallons to $0.385 per 100 gallons. The rate increase is scheduled to go into effect for the October billing period, and would be reflected on customers’ bills due in November.

According to MMU’s meeting agenda, this would increase the average residential customer’s monthly sewer bill by $5.25, causing the average $36.73 monthly sewer bill to increase to $41.98.

On August 31, the board held a special informational meeting regarding the funding of the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvements. MMU stated the estimated improvement cost is approximately $9.1 million.

In other news, the Board of Public Works and Marshall City Council has approved the $8.9 million design-build agreement with Burns & McDonnell regarding the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvements.
