Norm Lucas, Executive Director of the Pioneer Trails Regional Planning Commission, was at the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, October 14, and explained the process of the grant application the county is seeking for the building of a Regional Welcome Center at Marshall Junction.

Lucas said the deadline to have all of the paperwork collected and grant proposal to be filed is January 31, 2022. He explained the commission needs to get an engineer for the preliminary study and one for the actual construction of the facility- but they could be the same. He said the Economic Development Administration is very particular.

Lucas further explained.

Lucas said the preliminary engineering report could cost between $5,000 to $7,000.

Lucas- who explained the grant proposal is more likely to gain approval if it is in the $1-1/2 million range- said advertising for the Request For Qualifications for engineers needs to be for at minimum 20 days.

Marshall-Saline Development Corporation Executive Director Cydney Mayfield and commissioners asked several questions. The commission took everything under advisement, and will make a decision at a later date.
