A Marshall organization is looking for donations to help families or individuals in need stay warm during this giving season.

With Ol’ Man Winter knocking at the door, there are many area residents who either don’t have enough clothing and/or wraps to keep them warm or are homeless. Marshall Homeless Shelter and Services- soon to be Project Homeless- is asking for donations during its first-ever “Blanket and Sock Drive.”

Myra Riley, one of the event’s organizers, says they would prefer new items, but will accept used ones, too.

Riley said donations are being accepted through Wednesday, December 8, at the House for Stories Bookshop at 111 East Arrow Street just off the square and at Hometown and Summers’ Pharmacies.

Riley says many places in town offer help for people in need- including several locations for warming stations.

Riley says the organization is just trying to get its footing right now, but hopefully will offer more services in the future.

The distribution of the items is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, in the parking lots of Hometown Pharmacy at 452 West Arrow Street and Summers Pharmacy at 895 West College Street.

Riley says if you have any questions, you can contact her through Facebook Messenger at the Facebook group Project Homeless Shelter for Marshall or give her a call at (660) 229-3871.

Riley also says the group is meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, at First Assembly of God Church in the Fellowship Hall. They request you enter in the back toward the recycling center. Riley says, “All ideas are welcome as we continue to work towards a more permanent solution.”
