The victim and driver in a traffic accident on Monday, November 8, in Sedalia have been identified by authorities.

According to a release from the Sedalia Police Department, at approximately 3:10 p.m., emergency crews responded to the area of North Engineer Avenue and Saline Street in reference to a girl who had been struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, emergency crews found the 11-year-old girl had suffered significant injuries from the crash. Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but the girl subsequently died from her injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by 34-year-old Leandre Chandler, of Sedalia, was southbound on North Engineer near Saline Street when the girl attempted to cross Engineer from east to west. Chandler applied the Trailblazer’s brakes and attempted to avoid the girl, but collided with her in the intersection.

Due to next of kin being notified, the girl has been identified as Ella M. Kindle.

Chandler was not injured in the crash and is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Investigation into this crash is ongoing. Several witnesses have been identified, including other children- who are being referred to Child Safe for interviews.

The Sedalia Police Department has requested and received assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Team.
