An alleged burglar was shot in Pettis County on Wednesday, November 10.

According to a Sedalia Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau report, officers responded to the 600 block of East 17th Street in reference to a burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the homeowner was awakened to someone inside their residence. The homeowner began checking the home with a firearm and located the suspect inside the residence. The homeowner ordered the suspect to leave the home. The suspect advanced toward the homeowner, and the homeowner shot the suspect one time. The suspect fled the residence.

Additional SPD officers responded to the area searching for the suspect, and he was located a short time later at Bothwell Regional Health Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The 52-year-old Sedalia man was arrested for first-degree burglary and transported to jail.

Formal charges are pending at the Pettis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Per KMMO Policy, the suspect’s name will not be released until formal charges are filed.
