A 25-year-old Benton County man who has been charged after the report of an accidental shooting on Tuesday, November 23, has had his first day in court.

According to a probable-cause statement, Benton County authorities responded to the report of an accidental shooting in the Bent Tree Harbor subdivision in Warsaw. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim – 28-year-old Tarah D. McIntyre, of the residence- who, despite authorities attempting life-saving measures, died at the scene. After further investigation of the crime scene, Jason L. Kroenke, of the same residence, was arrested.

Kroenke told authorities he and McIntyre were the only two people in the bedroom and had been doing meth since 10 p.m. November 22. After getting into an argument, Kroenke said he was standing with his back to McIntyre. He said McIntyre threatened to kill herself, and as he turned around the gun went off. Authorities say Kroenke’s interview was inconsistent with the evidence at the crime scene.

Court documents say Kroenke is charged with felonies for first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Kroenke is being held without bond.

Kroenke pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Wednesday, November 30. A bond hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, at Benton County Circuit Court.
