The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request filed by Union Electric Company d/b/a Ameren Missouri to adjust the Energy Efficiency Investment Charge (EEIC) that appears on the monthly bills of Ameren Missouri electric customers.

The EEIC is a charge which encourages utility companies to implement demand-side and energy efficiency programs  The mechanism is reflected as a separate line item on customer bills.

According to a news release, for a residential customer using 1,000 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of electricity a month, the EEIC will drop from approximately $5.35 a month to approximately $3.76 a month, a decrease of approximately $1.59 a month.

The Public Service Commission says the change is expected to take effect on February 1.

Ameren Missouri serves approximately 1.2 million electric customers in Missouri.
