
Mary Helen Staus, age 84, of Smithton, died Saturday, February 5, 2022 at her home.
She was born June 22, 1937 in Sedalia, a daughter of the late Alphonse and Florence (Nold) Seifner. On February 5, 1955 in Sedalia, she married Milburn William Staus, who preceded her in death on November 5, 2011.
Mary Helen was raised and educated in Sedalia and was a 1955 graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and spent countless hours tending her garden and flowers. Mary Helen loved watching hummingbirds, volleyball and playing bingo. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and attended St. Patrick Chapel.
Surviving are five sons, Paul Staus (Christie), of Polo, MO, Gerald Staus (Marcia) of Sedalia, Michael Staus (Gina) of Sedalia, David Staus (Lola Ann) of Smithton and Harold Staus (Susan) of Sedalia; three daughters, Patricia Bartlett of Sedalia, Marlene Cowles of Smithton and Barbara Brandt (Mike) of Marshall; a sister, Nancy Paxton of Cole Camp; 20 grandchildren, Jennifer Langdon, Nicholas Staus, Christopher Staus, Phillip Staus, Heather Staus, Maria Staus, Shayna Ulmer, Lane Brandt, Adrianna Fickess, Pamela Wilson, Kimberly Smith, Joshua Staus, Malleasa Staus, Sara Davis, Katie Jo Staus, Emily Taber, Austin Staus, Andrew Staus, Marshall Cowles and Kapt Brandt; and 21 great-grandchildren, Madison Langdon, Mitchell Langdon, Elisabeth Staus, Johnnie Staus, Chase Wilson, Keith Staus, Blaise Wilson, Kameron Smith, Korey Smith, Lindley Staus, Kaia Kyser, Acelynn Staus, Aiden Staus, Milo Staus, Archer Staus, Thomas Lobaugh, Evan Crawford, Kaylee Crawford, Grayson Staus, Jonah Staus and Noella Staus.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Seifner; a sister, Charlotte Dysart; a grandson, Keith Staus; and two great-grandsons, Michael Alan Bartlett Pettis and Myles Anthony Staus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, February 10, at the St. Patrick Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father David Veit officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jennifer Langdon, Nicholas Staus, Christopher Staus, Phillip Staus, Heather Staus, Maria Staus, Shayna Ulmer and Lane Brandt. Honorary pallbearers will be Adrianna Fickess, Pamela Wilson, Kimberly Smith, Joshua Staus, Malleasa Staus, Sara Davis, Katie Jo Staus, Emily Taber, Austin Staus, Andrew Staus, Marshall Cowles and Kapt Brandt. Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 6 p.m., with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
