The Lexington R-5 School Board has selected Eric Hon as the new high school principal and Stephen Phillips as the new secondary assistant principal for the 2022-23 school year.

According to the district, Hon has served as a special education teacher, special service coordinator, K-12 principal and JAG specialist over his 14 years in education. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, as well as a Master’s in Secondary Administration and a Master’s in Special Education Administration from William Woods University in Fulton. Hon has worked in the Sweet Springs, Concordia, Ballard, Marshall and Carrollton school districts. He and his wife Heather have four children and four grandchildren.

Phillips has been in education for 13 years, serving all of them in the Blue Springs School District as a high school science teacher. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education – Biology, a Master’s in Secondary Education Administration, and an Education Specialist in Secondary Administration with Superintendency, all from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. He resides in Blue Springs with his fiancé, who will retire from education in two years. They have three children in their blended family. Their middle and youngest children will be attending MU next year, while their oldest attends Kansas School for the Deaf. He enjoys doing activities outdoors and spending time with his family and kids, especially at their family farm in Norborne.

Hon and Phillips will officially begin their duties on August 1.
