The Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works held a discussion over the establishment of a $150,000 Economic Development Fund during its meeting on Thursday, June 30.

MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom said the idea for this fund started when the Marshall City Council drafted an ordinance requiring MMU to pay a certain amount of gross revenue to the city annually.

Bergstrom said the board and the council have discussed an alternative to the ordinance.

Bergstrom said the fund could serve as the alternative.

The board tabled the item and will continue the discussion during a work session scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 6 at the MMU Service Center Conference Room located at 1459 West Arrow Street.

In other news, the board approved a $42,025 bid from Septagon Construction for remodeling of the break room and bathroom in MMU’s filter building. Those sections of the building received flood damage. The board reports that the project is part of the FEMA project, so the bid will be reimbursed at 90 percent.
