A Johnson County man was killed in a mobile home fire on Friday, September 30.

According to the Johnson County Fire Protection District, the fire was reported at approximately 1:00 p.m. by a person who stated that half the mobile home was on fire. While firefighters were responding, resident Richard Coffman reportedly re-entered the home to retrieve a dog. Firefighters later found Coffman deceased with the dog deceased nearby.

“Three District stations responded as well as one station from Johnson County Fire Protection District Number 2,” stated Captain Joe Jennings.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal and the Johnson County Fire Investigation Unit.

The home is located in the 900 block of Northwest 445 Road in rural Johnson County.
