Shawnna Layton, 52, of rural Sweet Springs, MO, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.

Born April 5, 1970, in Marshall, she was the daughter of Melody Ann Harris Eddy, who survives of rural Sweet Springs, and Roy William Eddy Jr., who survives of Slater.  Shawnna lived in Saline County most of her life and was a 1988 graduate of Slater High School.  On October 15, 1993, she married Mike Layton who survives of the home.  Shawnna earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.  She worked at Anthony Eddy’s Wildlife Studio several times through the years where she had a great skill working with small animals.  She also worked at Space Craft manufacturing in Concordia for several years where she was a purchasing agent.  Shawnna was a member of Gilliam Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Roy and Melody, and her husband, Mike; she is survived by their two sons, Gatlin and Cooper Layton, both of the home; one brother, Shane Eddy (Christi) of rural Miami; her in-laws, George and Bonnie Layton of Waverly; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and an untold number of friends.

Shawnna was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leonard and Mary Harris; and her paternal grandparents, Roy Eddy Sr. and Dolly Eddy.
