Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Agents are asking hunters to not dump deer carcasses.

In Missouri, an individual commits the offense of unlawful disposing of a dead animal when they knowingly place or cause to be placed the carcass or offal of any dead animal:

-Into any well, spring, brook, branch, creek, pond or lake.
-On any public road or highway, river, stream or watercourse or upon the premises not his or her own for the purpose of annoying another or others.

Illegal dumping can help spread Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).

The offense for unlawful disposing of a dead animal is a Class C Misdemeanor.

MDC stated that hunters can help prevent the spread of CWD by properly disposing of carcass parts:

-Place in trash or landfill.
-Bury deer parts on-site.
-Leave on-site.
-Do not place in water.
-Do not burn the deer carcass.

To report poaching or illegal dumping of a deer carcass individuals can contact their local Conservation Agent or call the Operation Game Thief Hotline at 1-800-932-1111.
