The Marshall City Council heard the first reading on placing a three percent sales tax on all tangible personal property retail sales of adult use marijuana sold within the Marshall city limits on the April 2023 ballot during its meeting on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

The council tabled a second reading to allow for public comment at the next meeting on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. The council will need to approve the ordinance at the next meeting to have it placed on the April ballot.

The council approved two appointments during the meeting. Angie Woods was appointed to the Marshall Housing Authority and Ken Bryant was reappointed to the Board of Public Works.

In other news from the meeting, City Administrator J.D. Kehrman gave an update on the transition of trash service in the city to RTS Waste Services LLC.

RTS owner David Kruger stated that the transfer of service went fairly smoothly and reminded citizens to place trash out early as pick up for residential customers usually starts between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
