Larry Wayne Schelp, 79, of rural Blackburn, Mo, formerly of Concordia, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. He lived in Concordia most of his life.

 

Larry was born on March 6, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo to the late Erwin Schelp and Della Langewisch Schelp of Concordia. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and confirmed into his Christian faith on April 14, 1957. Larry also attended St. Paul’s Grade School and Concordia High School where he graduated in 1961.

Larry worked at the Concordia Creamery and worked on the family farm, while attending high school. After graduating, he moved to Kansas and managed three cheese plants there for a few years. He then moved back to Concordia and took over the family farm and eventually worked as a machinist at Gardner Denver in Sedalia.

On August 10, 1968, he married Sandra Kay Luehrs at Zion Lutheran Church in Blackburn, Mo.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; a sister, Deanna Thompson of Cambridge, Minn.; four children, Angela Schulte (Shawn) of Jefferson City, Mo., Shannon Schelp (Kim) Parkville, Mo., Shawn Schelp (Christine) of Blue Springs, Mo and, Derek Schelp (Carrie) of Blue Springs, Mo; eight grandsons, Cameron (Kalli), Parker (Chezney) and Griffin (Savanna) Schulte, Blake, Jason, Corey (Maddy) and Haden Schelp and Quentin Hill; 10 great-grandchildren, Ezra, Elouise, Quinton and Korbin, Vivian, Josiah, Anderson Schulte and Elijah, Emersyn and Ellie Schelp; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Nolan, 2 brothers, Lonnie and Stanley and twin brothers at birth.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday Feb. 18, 2023, with service following at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Concordia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Luke’s Hospice House, Concordia Fire Dept. or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
