A pair of accidents on Interstate 70 west of Columbia on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of one person and three others injured, including a Wooldridge woman.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the first accident around 9 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-70, just east of the exit with Route J. According to troopers, a vehicle driven by 57-year-old Sheila Miller of Wooldridge clipped the right front corner of a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Axton Nease, also of Wooldridge. Miller’s car then went into the median, striking the cable barrier. She suffered moderate injuries and was treated at a Columbia hospital. Nease had no reported injuries.
While crews were responding to this accident, another accident occurred in the backed up traffic, resulting in one fatality. Troopers say that a car driven by 22-year-old Joshua Hulse of Columbia became lodged underneath a semi trailer that had slowed down upon coming up to the initial accident. Hulse was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in his car were treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital. The driver of the semi had no reported injuries.
