The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen accepted bids for police radios and the park mowing contract during its meeting on Monday, March 10.

The board started by reviewing the three bids they received for the park mowing contract. The board accepted the low bid from Fiedler Mowing in the amount of $700 per month, at the Park Board’s recommendation. The other bids came in over $850 and $900.

The board then accepted a police radio bid from A&W Communications for four handhelds, three mobile units, and a base unit for the station, which totaled $49,554.83. After some discussion, the board decided to reduce the number of handheld devices to three, but still accepted the bid from A&W Communications to purchase the radio equipment.

In other news, the board approved a request from Sweet Springs Fair Board President Emily Dohrman to host the Bunny Hop 5K run and walk in the city. Dohrman explained there will be no need for a street closure for this event. The race will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, with registration beginning at 9.

Also, the board voted to appoint Rick Clemens and Austin Hedgpeth to the Park Board.
