The Marceline City Council voted to enter into a five-year contract with RTS for trash service in the city during its meeting on Wednesday, April 8.
City Manager Jesse Wallis says the contract will offer the same service for Marceline residents at an increase of a few dollars a month.
The $18 per month rate is locked in for the next three years when the contract takes effect.
In other news, the council entered into an agreement to complete a foam roof coating project at City Hall, which came in well under what was initially budgeted.
Council members also approved a street closure request on Ritchie Avenue for the Wine and Art Stroll on August 22. Additionally, the council moved forward with a playground design proposal from ParksWork for a nature-themed playground design. Wallis the project is still in the design phase and no construction costs have been calculated at this time.
The council also reviewed a presentation for employee health, dental, and vision insurance. Wallis says the city is facing a 9.9 percent increase in health and a 4 percent increase in dental. The council didn’t take any action and will instead make a decision during a special meeting on Tuesday, April 14. This meeting will also serve as the council’s reorganization meeting, where Brian Baker will be sworn-in to succeed Gary Carlson after defeating John Gibson 135-46 in the April General Municipal Election.
