The Missouri State Highway Patrol secured the arrest of a Kansas City man following a high-speed pursuit down Interstate-70 in Lafayette County on Sunday, May 31.

According to a probable cause statement, troopers were informed of a subject traveling westbound on I-70 brandishing a firearm at another motorist. The victim stated the driver of the other vehicle displayed a handgun and made a “cocking gun gesture.” Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle at 1:21 p.m., but it accelerated away at a high rate of speed, leading to the pursuit.

The vehicle allegedly traveled at speeds of over 120 miles per hour and passed other vehicles on the shoulder of the roadway. Due to the hazardous acts of the suspect’s vehicle and a construction zone at the Mile Marker 29, the trooper deactivated their emergency equipment and terminated the pursuit.

The vehicle crashed near Mile Marker 29 at 1:28 p.m. and the driver, identified as Dante Woods, was apprehended trying to flee the scene. A computer inquiry of Woods revealed his driver’s license was suspended for a failure to appear. Woods also had an active misdemeanor warrant through Platte County. The handgun Woods allegedly brandished at another motorist was also recovered at the scene.

Woods is facing felony charges for aggravated fleeing, unlawful use of a weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest for a felony. Woods also faces misdemeanors for driving while revoked and speeding. No bond has been allowed.
