The Moberly City Council approved an increase in the city’s water and sewer rates during its meeting on Monday, June 1.

Community Relations Manager Scott McGarvey says the council approved a three percent rate increase to help combat rising maintenance and operating costs.

The increase takes effect on July 1 bills. McGarvey says this ordinance also passes processing fees associated with credit and debit card payments to customers beginning July 1 as well. Council members also implemented a $2 monthly processing fee for customers who choose to receive a mailed paper bill starting September 1. This fee is designed to offset printing and postage costs associated with paper billing.

In other news, the council approved a request from the Moberly School District to hold its Homecoming Parade on October 2. McGarvey provided more details about the event.

The council’s next meeting is set for Monday, June 15.
