The Kansas City Royals scored a season high 15 runs on 22 hits to claim a series victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Monday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.

The Phillies took the lead with an RBI double from Alec Bohm in the first inning, but the lead would evaporate in the bottom of the inning as the Royals responded with six runs. After Bobby Witt Jr. scored on a throwing error, Nick Loftin gave the Royals the lead with an RBI single. Starling Marte added an RBI single and Luke Maile crushed a his first homer of the year to drive in three more in the frame.

Salvador Perez added a solo shot in the second and Lane Thomas homered in the fourth to knock Phillies ace Cristopher Sánchez out of the game. Sánchez gave up nine runs on 12 hits and a walk to take his fourth loss of the season.

The Royals continued to pour it on against Philadelphia’s bullpen, with Tyler Tolbert adding a solo home run in the fifth. Kansas City also scored another run in the sixth, and two more in each the seventh and eighth innings. Tolbert finished with five hits and three runs scored to lead the offensive explosion. The Royals also scored in every inning for just the second time in franchise history.

Noah Cameron picked up the win, allowing one run on six hits and five walks over five innings. Steven Cruz, Beck Way, and Jose Cuas combined to throw four scoreless innings.

The Royals improve to 37-54, a game better than the LA Angels for the worst record in baseball, but still 11 games back of Chicago in the AL Central. The Royals will next travel to New York for a three-game series with the Mets beginning Tuesday evening. Seth Lugo will get the start.
