Nila June (Loges) Fain, 86, of Saline County, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and comforted by God’s grace.
Nila was born on September 2, 1939, in Sweet Springs, Missouri, to Oscar and Pearl Loges. Nila was raised on a farm in Emma where she developed the values of faith, hard work, and the importance of love and family that would guide her throughout her life.
On August 28, 1955, Nila married the love of her life, Earl E. Fain Jr. Together they shared nearly a lifetime of love while building a beautiful life rooted in love, faith, family, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to one another. They made their home in Saline County, Missouri, where they spent most of their lives together, raised their family, and created countless cherished memories. Later, they moved to Hermitage, Missouri, where they lived for twelve years before returning to the family farm in Saline County, a place that has always held a special place in their hearts.
Nila lived a life defined by love, compassion, faith, and selfless service. Her Christian faith guided every aspect of her life and was reflected in the way she lived each day. She found beauty in all things, joy in serving others, purpose in offering grace, guidance, encouragement, and kindness making everyone she met feel welcomed, accepted, valued, and deeply loved. Her compassion and generous heart extended far beyond her home. Nila earned her associate’s degree in social services, reflecting her caring heart and lifelong desire to help those in need. She faithfully served as a social services worker at Mar-Saline Manor Care Center, where she was known for her kindness, patience, and genuine concern for every person whose life she touched.
Nila found her greatest joy in life’s simplest blessings. She loved tending to her garden and preserving its harvest or making homemade foods with her grandchildren to share with her family and friends, planting flowers, reading books, journaling her thoughts and memories, sewing nearly anything she could imagine, and filling her bird feeders before spending peaceful evenings with Earl watching the birds and deer. She delighted in preparing meals that brought everyone to the table, where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and memories were made. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and family, whether gathered around the table for a card game or simply enjoying one another’s company. She believed the richest moments in life were those shared with the people you love, and no one embodied that more beautifully than she did
More than anything, Nila loved her family. She was the heart and the steady presence her family could always count on—a safe place in every season of life. She possessed a steady spirit and quiet strength that steadied those around her bringing peace and a sense of belonging to all. She loved deeply, listened patiently, and gave generously of herself. To know Nila was to experience genuine care, heartfelt compassion, and unwavering kindness. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always had room for one more. Nila’s life reminds us that true greatness is not measured by wealth or recognition, but by the love we give, the lives we touch, and the family we leave behind. Her legacy will continue in every family dinner shared around a crowded table, every garden planted, every jar of home-canned food prepared with love, every hand of cards played, every journal filled with cherished thoughts, every bird feeder filled, every evening watched from the porch, and every story told about the incredible woman she was.
Nila was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Pearl Loges; her brother, Leland Loges; and her daughter, Cindy Bosley
She is survived by her beloved husband, Earl E. Fain Jr.; her children, Ron Fain and his wife, Barbara Fain; Sara Green-Hyatt and her companion, Jeff Davis; Roy Fain; Lorraine and Joel Fain. In addition to raising her own family, Nila devoted her life to caring for others, opening her heart and home to several foster children throughout the years, offering them love, guidance, and a place to belong, many of whom have remained cherished members of her family.
She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jason Fain, Lisa Smith, Kati Zollinhofer, Ryan Smith, Codie Green, Haley Green, Chelsey Green, Carolslea Green, Abigail Green, Luke Hyatt, Tristan Rother, Tyler Fain, and Kyle Fain, Brandon Reeves; her beloved great-grandchildren, extended family; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will follow at Salt Springs Cemetery west of Marshall. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers, friends, and loved ones whose kindness, prayers, and support brought comfort during Nila’s final days.
Though Nila will be deeply missed, and her time on earth has come to an end, her family finds comfort in God’s promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and in the assurance that all who believe in Him will never perish but have everlasting life. They also find peace and hope that she has been welcomed home into the presence of our Lord and Savior with the words, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’”(Matthew 25:23). Her life was a beautiful reflection of God’s love and grace, and the love she shared, the faith she lived, and the example she set will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Until the day they are reunited with her, her family will carry her memory in their hearts, her love in their homes, and strive to love others as she so faithfully did.
