Murder charges have been filed against a Braymer man accused of a double homicide reported near the Plymouth community on Thursday, August 27.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that Carroll County 911 was called to a residence on Route D around 5:45 p.m. Thursday. Upon their arrival, emergency personnel found two adults in the residence were deceased, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators located multiple spent rifle casings at the scene.
During the investigation, Kegan Kelly was identified as a person of interest after family members claimed that Kelly had recently made violent threats to one of the victims. The Patrol reports in a probable cause statement that one of the victims is Kelly’s brother and had requested an Order of Protections against Kelly due to those threats.
Law enforcement responded to Kelly’s residence and placed him into custody. While conducting a protective sweep of the residence, authorities located a rifle that was the same caliber as the shell casings recovered at the murder scene. During an interview with investigators, Kelly provided details about the incident and admitted to going to the victim’s residence while armed with the rifle. Kelly claimed he was influenced by voices and frightened by white orbs during the incident.
Kelly is facing two felony counts of murder in the first degree and is being detained pending further order. Court arrangements are pending at this time.
The incident comes four days after another double homicide was reported in Carroll County. Two people in their 40s were found deceased in a home east of Carrollton on Sunday. The suspect in last weekend’s shooting was found dead Wednesday afternoon in a recreational vehicle in a Central Illinois neighborhood.
