A fire Sunday, Aug. 30 in the Warsaw area destroyed two homes and caused moderate damage to a third.

The Warsaw Fire Protection District says they responded to the call just before 11 a.m. of a structure fire on Laird Street in a neighborhood northeast of the city. Firefighters received word that one person was unaccounted for and began a search of the interior. However, conditions deteriorated, resulting in their exit from the residence. The fire then spread to two neighboring structures, prompting mutual aid calls to 10 other agencies and the Missouri State Fire Marshal.

A total of 62 responders spent nine hours battling the blaze and securing the scene. No injuries were reported, and the fire is under investigation by the state marshal. Warsaw Fire thanked a number of agencies and local businesses for their support while crews were on the scene.
