Slater Schools Supt. Dr Terry Lorenz is grabbing his clipboard and making a return to the sidelines this winter.

Lorenz will take over coaching duties this winter for the Wildcat girls basketball team. He tells KMMO News that he hopes to provide stable leadership for the program.

Lorenz spoke after the Tuesday, Oct. 28 school board meeting, which saw the board accept the resignation of former girls basketball coach Teffany Sample as a science teacher at the end of the calendar year. The board approved the hire of Emily Crawford for the spring semester to replace Sample.

The board also approved their final reading of board policies pertaining to school-community relations, completing their cover-to-cover review of the district’s policy book, and also gave first reading to a slate of new policy revisions spurred by recent changes to state law. Bus routes for the year were formally approved, and the board also approved a handful of budget revisions.

Because of Lorenz’ return to the basketball court, Slater’s next school board meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 25, will begin at 11 a.m.
