Missouri voters in several counties in the KMMO listening area are going to the polls today to decide on a question regarding property tax credits for homeowners.
Missouri Senate Bill 3 required almost 100 counties across the state to place the question on the ballot. The ballot measure effectively aims to cap property tax liability increases at either zero or five percent (or the Consumer Price Index) over an initial base year, effectively freezing or limiting property tax growth for eligible residents. Saline, Pettis, Cooper, Carroll, Lafayette, and Randolph Counties all fall under the five percent cap on annual tax increases, while Johnson County is a zero percent tax freeze. Howard County was one of the 17 counties exempt from placing the measure on the ballot in April 2026.
The measure is currently on the ballot for voters in Pettis, Saline, Chariton, Lafayette, and Carroll Counties, as well as over 90 others across the state. Saline County Clerk Brittni Burton encourages voters throughout the area to get informed on the measure before heading to the polls.
Burton notes that residents in Saline County can visit the county’s website, or contact her office for more information about the impacts of the measure.
Polls across the state close at 7 p.m. this evening. KMMO will have the latest results posted as the results come in.
