Many area residents who attended the Memorial Day Ceremony sought refuge under some shade trees on the Saline County Courthouse lawn as the hot temperatures baked the asphalt of Arrow Street in Marshall on Monday, May 28, during the annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony.
Marshall native and retired U.S. Navy Captain Al Hupp (pictured) was the featured speaker. Although there are numerous cookouts and get-togethers going on today across the country, he reminded everybody this is a day of remembrance.

Hupp said he was honored to speak, and talked about the unofficial motto of the U.S. Navy.

Hupp explained, in detail, the origin of the motto– he said dating back to the early days of the United States as a country– and how it has carried through to today.
