Martha J. Monnig, passed away at The Lodge in Fayette, MO on November 10, 2016. She was 84 years of age. Martha Joyce Monnig was born in rural Howard County, MO on November 5, 1932 to Robert C. and Ida (Spires) Duren.
She attended elementary school at the Richland School south of Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1950. Martha worked at Glasgow Savings Bank for over 30 years. She was married to Melvin Boggs on November 25, 1951 and they were the parents of two children, Linda and Jeff.
On May 17, 1985 she was united in marriage to Robert Monnig. Bob preceded her in death on July 16, 2010. Martha loved to crochet, play cards and dominos, and was a member of Richland Christian Church. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Bob and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Linda (William) Nordmeyer, of Glasgow, MO; son, Jeff Boggs, of Fayette, MO; three step-sons, Tim (Carol) Monnig, John (Jan) Monnig, both of Glasgow, MO, and Ron (Paula) Monnig, of Slater, MO; step-daughter in law Natalie Monnig, of Glasgow, MO; three brothers, Jim (Delores) Duren, of Glasgow, MO, Keith Duren, of Montgomery City, MO, and Floyd (Arlene) Duren, of Campbell, CA; and a sister Barbara Heisel, of Brunswick, MO. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by step-son, Tom “Bear” Monnig; three brothers, R.D., Bernard, and Bill Duren; and one sister Janice Warford.
Services for Mrs. Monnig will be 2 PM, Monday, November 14, 2016 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow with Rev. Thomas Myers officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service from 1-2 PM. Burial will follow the funeral service at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Glasgow Senior Center or Richland Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.
