A good portion of the Carrollton Town Council meeting on Tuesday, January 2, was spent discussing the power outage that affected the entire town on New Year’s night.
According to Administrative Assistant Terry Bell, the switch-gear that led to a fire that caused the blackout has been fixed and hopefully won’t give the city any more trouble.
Bell said there were about two dozen people taken to emergency shelters in the town during the six-hour outage to try to keep them warm due to the frigid temperatures. She said council members and city agencies worked together to make sure everybody stayed safe as the temperature dipped into the single digits.
In other news, the Town Council approved the Carrollton Municipal Utilities budget as presented by superintendent Clint Mathis. The city’s fiscal year began on January 1.
