The Glasgow Board of Aldermen approved requests for entities to host a couple of city events scheduled later this year during its regular-session meeting on Monday, January 8.
According to the minutes of the meeting, the board approved the request from the Chamber of Commerce to host a downtown wine-walk event on April 14. In other business, Police Chief Charlie Polson reported the City of New Franklin had a Hummer SUV on loan from the U.S. Department of Defense, which the city decided it no longer wanted. Polson added the DOD would lend the vehicle to the City of Glasgow at no cost other than liability insurance, which was quoted at $300 annually. Polson said the vehicle runs well, but needs some minor repairs. Polson stated there is no obligation to keep the vehicle and can be returned at anytime. The board then made a motion and approved to accept the SUV from the DOD through the end of the current fiscal year on June 30.
Also during the meeting, Public Works Supervisor Victor Suttner reported that Kansas City Power and Light sent Wright Tree Service to address a tree deemed as a hazard at Gregg’s Creek. Suttner added the tree was trimmed, but still needs to be cut down with the property owner’s consent. The property owner was in attendance and informed Suttner city personnel are authorized to cut down the tree.
