Time was allotted at the end of the Town Hall meeting in Marshall on Thursday, January 18, for members of the city council to talk about some of the council’s recent accomplishments. A couple of them centered around having a better-looking budget and keeping an eye on every dollar that’s spent.
Ward 2 Councilman Kirk Arends said it helps when all of the city’s agencies work together, but it really comes down to dollars and cents.
Arends also pointed out there are things staring the city in the face– such as when the street sweeper goes down that costs $300,000 and/or a new fire truck that will cost a half-million-dollars or more. But he said the city is in better shape now than it was two years ago.
Ward 1 Councilman Ron Ott piggybacked off of that. He said the year before he was elected, the city had a budget that was in the red.
The Town Hall meeting was held in front of a full room of Marshall residents at the Martin Community Center.
