An area police department is warning residents of a possible scam.
A post on the Chillicothe Police Department’s Facebook page says residents have reported receiving phone calls from the phone number (817) 261-2822. It says an automated voice says your Verizon account has been suspended and it asks for your Verizon PIN and your social-security number.
Personnel from the police department reportedly entered bogus numbers, hoping they would get to speak to somebody. But once they entered the numbers, it told them the account had been reinstated and then hung up.
So, the police department says the calls are phishing for those important Verizon numbers to access your account. If you try to call the number back, it’ll say you have reached a number that has been disconnected or is no longer in service.
It’s always recommended never to provide any information and contact your cell-phone provider to verify.
