A Marshall man who allegedly tampered with the odometer on a vehicle before selling it has been charged with a felony in Saline County.
According to a probable-cause statement, 38-year-old Jose Angel Ayala sold a vehicle at the dealership of A & A Auto Motor in Marshall on July 11, 2016. The odometer at that time reportedly showed 135,717. However, after the purchase of the vehicle, the customer discovered through Auto Check that the vehicle had 180,090 miles on it as of June 22, 2016. Ayala reportedly bought the vehicle on behalf of A & A Auto Motor for $1,200 and sold it for $2,800 with the odometer allegedly rolled back.
Online court documents say a warrant has been issued and Ayala has been charged with a Class D Felony for Odometer Fraud in the Second Degree. Bond has been set at $5,000 cash or surety or 10-percent approved.
Ayala’s initial hearing at Saline County Circuit Court in Marshall is pending.
