Some students at the Saline County Career Center in Marshall will earn credit while getting some on-the-job-type training this spring.
During its meeting on Tuesday, January 23, the Marshall School Board was asked to consider approving an agreement between the culinary arts program and the Marshall Parks and Recreation Department.
Saline County Career Center Director Mitch Holder explained it will be where the students will work at The Golf House Grill at Indian Foothills Park during the last half of the third quarter and all of the fourth quarter this year. He said it will give the students the hands-on experience of what it’s like to be in an actual restaurant environment. He said the students will prepare and serve brunch and lunch.
Marshall Parks and Recreation Superintendent Jeff Stubblefield said with some turnover in his department, there is a need for the partnership.
Culinary Arts Instructor Lorena Reyes said this will present a great opportunity for her students to get a taste of the real-world experience.
The board was informed of many of the particulars, including transportation to be provided by the district, and then approved the agreement.
Stubblefield said if all goes well, it could be an agreement that could continue in the future.
