Along with being called out to douse several natural-cover fires over the past three days due to dry and windy conditions causing outside burning to get out of control, Marshall Fire Department personnel were toned out to put out a couple of minor fires on Sunday, January 28.
According to a department spokesperson, fire fighters were toned out at 9:11 p.m. to the report of a tree stump being on fire in the 600 block of North Lyon Avenue. Fire fighters reportedly had the fire under control at 9:43 p.m. and cleared the scene at 9:45 p.m. It was determined the fire likely ignited due to a discarded cigarette butt.
About 15 minutes after wrapping up that call, fire fighters responded to a report of a moped on fire at a residence in the 800 block of South Lafayette Avenue.
Fire fighters were toned out at 10:04 p.m. They reportedly extinguished the fire with a pressurized water extinguisher. The fire reportedly was deemed under control at 10:13 p.m., and fire fighters reportedly cleared the scene at 10:15 p.m. The fire was deemed likely to have started due to a fuel leak.
No injuries were reported from either scene.
