A Howard County resident has been charged with a felony in Saline County for allegedly taking advantage of the elderly.
According to a probable-cause statement, 40-year-old Lindsay Michelle Forbes, of Glasgow, was appointed as qualified guardian and conservator of the estate of her father on September 13, 2016. On January 5, 2018, the Saline County Division of Aging reported to the Marshall Police Department a possible exploitation of an elder.
Westport Estates in Marshall reportedly advised the elderly man that there is an outstanding balance on his account of more than $26,000 and an outstanding bill of more than $1,150 owed to a pharmacy that provides his medications.
Forbes is alleged to have made purchases with the elderly man’s funds on several occasions at different area businesses from November 2016 through July 2017 that totaled more than $27,800, and none of the items reportedly ever reached the elderly man’s residence.
According to online court documents, a warrant has been issued and served, and Forbes has been charged with a Class B Felony for Financial Exploitation of an Elderly or Disabled Person- Property Value between $1,000 and $49,999. Forbes reportedly posted $15,000 surety bond on January 29.
Forbes’ arraignment hearing is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, at Saline County Circuit Court in Marshall.
