A couple of state agencies are teaming up to urge area residents and businesses to participate in a state-wide “challenge” to help promote safe driving habits on Missouri roadways.
According to a news release , MoDOT and the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety are asking residents to take their driving habits seriously by participating in the Buckle Up-Phone Down Challenge, where over 2,100 individuals and nearly 300 businesses have participated. The challenge is for the driver to put down their cell phone and make sure every passenger in the vehicle is buckled up before traveling. Missouri is one of only 16 states without a primary seat belt law, and one of only three states without an all-driver texting ban.
Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety Executive Chairman Bill Whitfield says distracted driving is a leading cause of traffic crashes nationwide, with seat belts providing the best defense in a crash.
