The Boonville R-1 School District has announced the hiring of its first-ever female superintendent.
According to a news release, the district has hired Dr. Sarah Marriott for the 2018-19 School year. The school board reportedly made the decision during a special board meeting on February 2.
Dr. Marriott, who reportedly has been in education for 16 years, has served as Assistant Superintendent for Student Services and Director of Special Education for the district for three years. Prior to working at the Boonville district, Dr. Marriott served as Elementary and Middle School Principal and Director of Special Education for the Slater School District.
Dr. Marriott, a graduate of Boonville High School, completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Missouri-Columbia and her doctoral degree at Saint Louis University.
Dr. Marriott will begin as superintendent on July 1, 2018.
Dr. Marriott will replace current superintendent, Dr. Mark Ficken. Ficken announced his retirement in October. Dr. Ficken has served as superintendent for the past 13 years.
