MoDOT wants to remind motorists of potential road hazards, as well as offer driving tips while traveling during weather conditions forecasted the next several days.
According to a news release, light snow and the potential for freezing drizzle are forecast to hit central Missouri beginning Monday afternoon and lasting for several days. Freezing drizzle can result in patches of black ice, which is difficult to see on roadways, so motorists should use extra caution when traveling.
MoDOT encourages motorists to remember the following tips when driving during inclement weather: slow down; steer and brake gently; accelerate slowly at intersections; allow plenty of space between your vehicle and other vehicles; stay back 100 feet behind snow plows that may be spreading salt; and do not pass snow plows even when on a multi-lane road.
Also before traveling, MoDOT suggests motorists check the department’s Travel Information Map which offers the latest road conditions, as well as real-time traffic flow at www.modot.org.
