During the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, February 15, Northern District Commissioner Richard Clemens gave an overview of what happened at the Task Force meeting held on Wednesday at Slater City Hall.
Clemens said the Task Force basically decided on how proceeds are going to be divvied up between the cities within the county, provided the half-cent sales-tax measure for economic development is approved by voters in about six weeks.

Clemens, who said the remaining 20 percent will be split between the towns of Blackburn, Mt. Leonard, Emma, Malta Bend, Miami, Gilliam, Grand Pass and Nelson, outlined some of the suggested projects.

All of the decisions on how the money is allocated and for which projects will be made by the Task Force– and the figures could vary some.
It has been projected that the sales tax will rake in about $1.1 million per year during its 20-year life span. About $7 million of the funds has been earmarked for a project to get water piped to the south side of the junction of U.S. Highway 65 and I-70 to attract businesses.
Voters go to the polls to decide the fate of the sales-tax proposal on Tuesday, April 3.
