With dry and windy conditions persistent throughout much of the weekend, Pettis County Fire Protection District personnel were called out to battle multiple grass fires, including two on Sunday.
According to a release from chief Mike Harding, one blaze charred about 100 acres. Multiple units reportedly were on the scene near Muddy Creek on U.S. Highway 50 for about five hours. Mutual-aid was provided by the Sedalia Fire Department to the call that came in at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, fire fighters put out a blaze in about 30 minutes on Meadowlark Road. About five acres reportedly were scorched.
The first grass fire put out was on Friday. Fire fighters reportedly were on the scene for about 20 minutes. The blaze reportedly seared about five acres of land.
In addition to those calls, volunteers reportedly were called out to douse a trash fire shortly after the second grass fire on Sunday.
