Area authorities are advising residents of an old scam that could be circulating again.
According to a release from Boonville Police Chief Bobby Welliver, his department received a call on Friday, February 23, concerning a telephone scam.
The caller reportedly said they were calling for the granddaughter who had been arrested, and the victim needed to send $17,000 to get her out of jail. The caller reportedly went on to tell the person that their granddaughter was sick and was being driven to the hospital or doctor. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver had no driver’s license and drugs. Subsequently, they were both arrested and are currently incarcerated.
The Boonville Police Department reminds residents that you should never respond to any telephone calls such as this, and never send money unless you are absolutely sure it is a legitimate transaction to someone you know and trust.
