Citing concerns about the cost of utilities, the Marshall Public School District will cease using a building on the campus of the former Marshall Habilitation Center– at least for a while– at the end of this school year.
Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher explains cost of utilities was far greater than usual during a recent month for the Spainhower Building. She says the system is a mess and remains that way.
Dr. Maher said because moving out is a certainty, the district is exploring options for the next home for the alternative programs. So, prior to the board meeting on Tuesday, February 27, the board took a tour of the Methodist Church.
Dr. Maher says the district hopes to move back into the Spainhower Building at some point– after the city takes ownership of the property. At a recent city council meeting, City Administrator David Haugland reported the agreement between the city and the state still is on hold, awaiting the signature of Governor Eric Greitens.
