An area school district’s voters passed a no-tax-increase levy issue a couple of years ago for the purpose of building a new athletic facility. Now, it’s time for the residents to celebrate the completion of the biggest part of the project this weekend.
According to Smithton R-VI Superintendent David Bray, residents are invited to a Grand Opening of the track facility on Saturday, March 10.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. and include “The First Lap on the Track.”
Bray says all proceeds from any sales from the new concession stand will go toward the track program.
Bray said another facility included in the $500,000 project is a softball field, which he said should be ready for play this spring. There also eventually will be a soccer field in the middle of the track.
