Warrants have been issued, and two Camden residents have been charged with multiple felonies for alleged child abuse in Ray County.
According to a probable-cause statement, a 9-year-old female allegedly sustained numerous injuries, including to fingers on her right hand– including amputation of part of a finger; fractured left forearm and wrist; fractures of seven ribs; other broken bones that were healing; as well as bruising to her buttocks, thighs, lower legs, arms, ear and facial areas– while in the care of Mario Barreto and Melissa Holloway. The girl reportedly told Holloway that Barreto was hurting her, but Holloway allegedly did nothing about it.
According to online court documents, Barreto has been charged with one count of a Class A Felony for Abuse or Neglect of a Child; 17 counts of a Class B Felony for Abuse or Neglect of a Child and 11 counts of a Class D Felony for Abuse or Neglect of a Child. Barreto’s bond has been set at $250,000 cash only, with special unspecified conditions. Holloway has been charged with 14 counts of a Class B Felony for Abuse or Neglect of a Child and eight counts of a Class D Felony for Abuse or Neglect of a Child; as well as a Class E Felony for Hindering Prosecution of a Felony. Her bond has been fixed at $150,000 cash only.
An initial hearing for each of the accused is pending at Ray County Circuit Court.
